Why do they watch my stories but never message?

Watching your stories is the lowest-effort way to stay connected without being accountable. They get to see how you are and keep you in view without ever risking your reply. It usually means they're curious, and sometimes that they aren't ready to let go of the option of you. It rarely means they're about to come back with anything real. Judge them by what they do, and watching isn't doing.
